I realize this is a long testimonial, but sometimes you just can’t say enough about an extraordinary person.

Mary is extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of animal health and is a very keen observer when something is off kilter with one of her pets. She keeps the name and contact information of the pets’ vets and also the closest Animal ER Clinic. I always knew if Rosie wasn’t feeling well, Mary would know what to do and act accordingly.

------------------------------------------------------------

Mary Littlefield is THE most wonderful pet caregiver I have ever known. Mary has been taking care of my vizsla (dog), Rosie, for over 6 years. I say “taking care,” rather than just “walking” or “exercising” or “feeding,” because Mary is a 360° pet caregiver. I helped deliver Rosie, and we are inseparable. I have no children, and Rosie is my baby. I rarely leave Rosie with anyone, and I am very (overly) protective of her. I openly admit it. I will stay home and/or cancel plans if Mary is not available to drop in on Rosie while I’m out. If I have to stay late at work, a call to Mary, and she’ll feed Rosie so I don’t worry about her. I have had previous dog walkers, and that’s all they were. Mary is so very different. So wonderfully different.

Rosie’s breed are high-energy sporting dogs. Because of her reliable recall, Mary is able to take Rosie off-leash to many of the local conservation lands and let her run. Mary puts Rosie in the car and off they go. This type of exercise is absolutely imperative for energy release. (Otherwise, left to her own devices, Rosie will get into serious mischief in the house!) On rainy or inclement days, Mary will come in, play with Rosie, and just keep her company - talking, petting her, giving her treats and watching the TV (which I leave on for Rosie every day). And that is exactly what I want. Or Mary will plop Rosie in her car, and Rosie rides around with Mary while she does other visits. Rosie loves the car! My point here is that Mary will do whatever is best for Rosie on any given day. And she often texts me at work photos or videos of Rosie while they are out and about. I swear Rosie knows the sound of Mary’s car and is waiting excitedly until the door opens. Rosie loves Mary and vice versa.

Postscript: Shortly after I wrote this, I had to say goodbye to Rosie. At 13.5 she began having seizures one night. After my call to the 24-hr ER vet, my next call was to Mary, who came immediately and drove Rosie and me in her car to the ER Clinic. Staying with me, Mary helped me make the hard decision to let Rosie go, and we both held her as she passed. Mary’s compassion is endless.

As Rosie has gotten older, Mary has adapted her level of exercise, helping her in and out of the car as she can no longer jump as she used to, making sure she has everything she needs while I’m at work or away. Mary and my friendship has grown over the years, and I have gone on visits with Mary as she cares for other pets; specifically, cats and horses, and I’ve seen the level of care Mary gives her “clients.” Just like Dr. Doolittle, Mary talks to the animals. In soothing or animated tones depending on how the pet is feeling that day. She plays with them, takes them for wonderful walks, always giving them time and leash length to smell the flowers (and any other interesting scents they may come upon!) There’s never hurrying, never rushed time – whichever pet Mary is with is her #1 priority.

I trust Mary with my most cherished family member. And I want you to know that you can trust your pet to her care with complete confidence knowing that your pet is Mary’s main concern. Whether it’s long walks on a sunny day or playing hide n’ seek on a rainy day, stroking cats until the purr is deafening, or giving meds in addition to food and treats – you can relax and never worry when Mary is taking care of your pet .

Mary has been taking care of my pets since 2011, and I can say with confidence that she is wonderful at her job. I truly feel as though she loves my dog like she is her own, and when we lost our great dane recently Mary could not have been more kind. As I am the type of person whose animals are like my kids, I don't recommend pet services casually - Mary is the real deal; trustworthy, kind, and reliable.
